Ericsson's border-control system selected by Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic

Ericsson has signed a contract with the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic to deliver a system for technical and physical control of the border with Ukraine as part of the European Union's Schengen arrangements. The system will be implemented by the end of 2007.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will deliver a system for technical and physical border control to optimize security along almost 100km of mountainous country on the Slovak-Ukrainian border, which will become an outer border of the Schengen region from 2008.

Ericsson border-control solutions are highly reliable systems based on a thorough analysis of border policing, potential risks and advanced technical knowledge, as well as understanding of specific border conditions.

Marián Bezák, president, Ericsson Slovakia, says: "Our long-term relationship with the Ministry of Interior is moving into a new phase. Communications has been Ericsson's core business for 130 years and this wide range of experience ensures that every element, from sensors to individual communications devices, is fully ready to protect the border of the Schengen region."

Ericsson's border-control system meets the Ministry's specific needs thanks to its modular architecture. It includes stand-alone modules for management and sensor systems as well as resource planning. They are built on commercial products and public standards. Ericsson Border Area and Security (EBAS) management system, the state-of-the-art technology, is the basis of the technical solution.
