Barco takes Control Display Unit to the next level

At Paris Air Show 2007, avionics display specialist Barco has unveiled the successor of its widely used Control Display Unit ‘CDMS'. With the next generation 'CDMS-3000', Barco raises the bar by offering markedly improved image quality and modularity while greatly reducing weight, size and energy consumption. At the same time, the new CDMS-3000 introduces a flexible open system architecture and a wealth of interfacing options.

"Our brand-new generation of Control Display Units represents a new level of flexibility for our customers," explains Barco Avionics Product Manager Jean-Christophe Monfret. "Thanks to the unique MOSArt development platform, system integrators can easily develop and integrate their own FMS application, or any other application, on the powerful CDMS-3000 unit. This allows the CDMS-3000 to be used for a multitude of roles in a wide variety of new and retrofit aircraft and helicopters.

The innovative CDMS-3000 line comes as a complete product family, including the civil CDMS-3739 (ARINC-739), the military-oriented CDMS-3753 (combo ARINC-429 and MIL-STD-1553), and the versatile CDMS-3702, which hosts the unique MOSArtTM software development platform. All versions feature a sunlight-readable, NVG compliant 3 x 4 inch AMLCD panel with VGA resolution. Various keyboard sizes with different engravings and colors are available, enabling form-fit-function compatibility with existing units.

Thanks to its multitude of interfacing options, including ARINC-429, Ethernet, mass memory and front USB, the CDMS-3000 can be applied as an advanced FMS host platform as well as a data loader. To enable excellent reliability and a low life cycle costs even in the harshest operating conditions, the new CDMS-3000 features a cold wall air cooling system.

Barco's new CDMS-3000 is being demonstrated at Paris Airshow in hall 2B, stand J5.
