BAE SYSTEMS UNVEILS MI-172 COCKPIT DEMONSTRATOR ON KAZAN
HELICOPTERS STAND AT PARIS AIR SHOW

BAE SYSTEMS Avionics Group has unveiled its Mi-172 Cockpit Demonstrator sited on the Kazan Helicopter stand at this week's Paris Air Show as part of the company's on-going international marketing agreement between the two companies, and a third, Kelowna Flightcraft Limited. The three companies concluded an international marketing agreement for the Mi-172 medium-utility and transport helicopter earlier this year.

Dr David Hughes, EVP Helicopter with BAE SYSTEMS' Avionics Group, said: "BAE SYSTEMS is delighted to have located our Mi-172 cockpit demonstrator on the Kazan Helicopter stand for the duration of the Paris Air Show. This is one of the most tangible consequences of our international marketing agreement on Mi-172 with Kazan Helicopters and Kelowna Flightcraft Limited and demonstrates a new level of global co-operation in the international helicopter market. Exhibiting our demonstrator on Kazan's stand is a first in terms of co-operation between BAE SYSTEMS and Russian partner.

The cockpit demonstrator sited on the Kazan stand has various features including:

- Honeywell Electronic Flight Instrument System (EFIS) installed and integrated by Kelowna Flightcraft.

- BAE SYSTEMS Tactical Colour Multi Function Display with Digital Moving Map, FLIR/LLTV/CTV imagery, Systems Status Page, Electronic Warfare Page, Electronic Checklists.

- BAE SYSTEMS Titan 385 Stabilised Multi Sensor Turret System installed and operating.

- Simulation package to demonstrate TERPROM functions within Digital Moving Map terrain database.

- Martin Baker Replacement light weight crew seat.

- Demonstration of improved crew interface to minimise cockpit workload.

Under the marketing agreement the three companies will jointly market new Mi-172 helicopters built by Kazan, and equipped with a new mission system from BAE SYSTEMS Avionics alongside the automated flight control system and glass cockpit developed by Kelowna Flightcraft, Kazan Helicopters and Mil Design Bureau.

The partnership equips the Mi-172 platform with the latest mission system and avionics technologies to provide an extremely capable and cost effective solution to meet a nation's medium utility helicopter transport requirements. International customers will be provided with an enhanced operational capability with a reduced pilot workload plus lower overall throughlife costs.

The system provides an increased operational capability, to meet NATO and other international standards, for an already established and proven, high performance helicopter, BAE SYSTEMS and Kazan will act as prime contractor in export markets, depending upon the prospective customer.
