Brushless DC LBV Thrusters

As with all ROVs the thrusters are one of the key components. They must provide adequate power to overcome drag from both the ROV and its umbilical. Plus they must be robust. The SeaBotix proprietary designed and manufactured Brushless DC thrusters have proven to be reliable, powerful, easy to maintain and long lasting.

Powerful
Key to the success of all small ROVs are powerful thrusters that can overcome vehicle and umbilical drag. Of course umbilical diameter is as important, which LBV has the smallest diameter (8mm).

All LBV systems are supplied with the Brushless DC thrusters that have an individual output of 4.5 kgf (9.9ft/lbs) in both directions. Four and five thrusters LBVs have a combined forward Bollard thrust of 7 kgf (15.4ft/lbs) and the six thruster LBVs have an awesome 13kgf (28.7ft/lbs).

Powerful thrusters, compact ROV and small diameter umbilical equal capable offshore MiniROV.

Reliable
Brushless DC thrusters offer greater reliability and longevity than conventional brushed motors. There is no brush to wear out and the motors can be pushed harder.

SeaBotix own electronics are robust and full of safety/diagnostic tools that ensure the thrusters operate at their optimum level continually. Current sensors keep the motor from being damaged if an object is stuck in the propeller.

Adding to the motor/electronics is the oil-compensation. By individually oil-compensating the thrusters pressure on the seals is taken away. Plus the oil offers added cooling.

Should a problem arise all LBV systems are supplied with a spare thruster assembly. The spare can be used in any of the positions and also isolated from each other.

Diagnostics
An on screen diagnostics menu can aid in identifying any issues with the thrusters. For example if during an operation the LBV gets some line caught around the port forward thruster the LBV will not fly straight. Not knowing what might be the problem a diagnostic menu can be brought up that displays faults, RPM and temperature. With no fault listed and no RP when the joystick is pushed forward the operator knows that something is likely stuck around the prop. Bring the LBV to the surface, clean the obstruction and back in the water.

Low Maintenance
The Brushless DC thrusters are low maintenance. THere is a grease gallery around the shaft that requires pushing new grease through. The grease is supplied and the process takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

Besides the grease only the oil and seals need to be refreshed after extended hours of operation. All materials are marine grade and suitable for years of harsh environment exposure
