Barco ships 700th unit of flagship simulation projector

Barco, the independent world leader in visualization for the training and simulation market, is pleased to announce the shipment of its 700th SIM 7 projector. Specifically designed to meet the stringent demands of high-fidelity simulation, Barco's SIM 7 uses liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology and is equipped with the features and optimizations needed to deliver a strong sense of realism.

Barco's SIM 7 was the first liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) projector designed for the training and simulation market. With QXGA (2048x1536) resolution and extremely high contrast, it aims to provide highly realistic images for the most demanding training applications.

"Naturally, we're pleased that the SIM 7 is doing so well," says Peter De Meerleer, Director Products and Solutions Management of Barco, "It's been the key component of many Barco systems over the past two years. This includes mini-domes, collimated displays, faceted displays as well as custom solutions." Designed to work in multi-channel systems, the SIM 7 incorporates simulation-specific features that create one seamless image. Its linked constant light output (CLO) and DynaColor equalize brightness and color between channels, its robust electronic edge blending eliminates visible blend zones, and its built-in warping technology ensures a geometrically correct image on curved or spherical screens.

"The success of our SIM 7 is not just a testament to the confidence our customers have in us," continues Mr. De Meerleer. "It also demonstrates the projector's unique versatility. For example, its variable contrast range of up to 6,000,000:1 and other IR enhancements make it a great choice for stimulated night vision goggle training, and its smearing reduction accurately renders crisp fast-moving objects for fast jet or nap-of-earth training. Furthermore, it is available in both landscape and portrait modes and supports a wide variety of fields of view."
