Scanna announces Dual Energy X-ray Imaging for its portable x-ray systems

Scanna are excited to announce the release of its ScanDEM Dual energy X-ray Module.

ScanDEM is a compact snap on module that attaches to any pulsed X-ray source allowing you to take multiple X-ray images of an object and to differentiate between organic and inorganic materials without any loss of x-ray penetration or image resolution.

The ScanDEM Module requires no external power supply and simply snaps onto your X-ray source without tools or screws. It is designed primarily for use with Golden X-ray Sources and ScanSilc portable x-ray systems.

The DE module provides additional information about the chemical composition of inspected items making assessment and identification faster and easier for the x-ray operator.

Based on airport x-ray colour coding and compatible with the ECAC Standard Test Piece (STP) ScanDEM distinguishes between materials according to their atomic weight (organic/inorganic) and uses different colours to classify inspected objects. The classification is carried out by a real time calculation based on the x-ray absorption factors of materials.

The colours are classified in 3 main groups: Orange indicates organic substances composed of light chemical elements. Explosives and narcotics belong to this group; Green indicates the presence of medium heavy elements or overlapping objects of organic and inorganic substances (mixed materials); whilst Blue Indicates dense inorganic or metallic substances such as zinc, copper and steel etc.

Applications for the dual energy module would include Bomb Disposal, Suspect Package Investigation, Checking Unattended Bags, Searching for Narcotics and hidden Contraband and CBRNE work.
