Prisons get security, rehab makeover

The government will put $81.3 million into a massive overhaul of prisons to boost security and provide better rehabilitation and prisoner training.
Corrections Minister Anne Tolley says infrastructure work will begin soon at Invercargill, Whanganui and Tongariro prisons, while development is already under way at Waikeria and Rolleston prisons.

Tongariro Prison gets the largest share of the funding, $26m, for a new perimeter fence and entry buildings, and a new prisoner transit station and health triage area.
