Smiths Detection awarded contract for automatic explosive detection equipment for London Luton Airport
Smiths Detection, has been selected to provide automatic explosive detection equipment to London Luton Airport for its new baggage handling facility. Further advanced X-ray equipment will also be provided for screening passengers' hand baggage. Trace detection equipment, which is an essential component of the screening requirement, will also be supplied as part of this contract.

Under this award, Smiths Detection International will supply HI-SCAN 10080EDtS second generation Automatic Explosive Detection tomography Systems, which are capable of automatically screening up to 1,800 bags per hour and providing the highest detection rate in their class. The 100% inspection of checked baggage has now become a critical element in traveller confidence and assuring the future success of the aviation industry.
