Security & Counter Terror Expo2014-03-05 08:28:34

Interview with Steve Roberts, Marketing Manager, Zaun Ltd . Exhibitor, Counter Terror Expo 2014

Q. What is the key focus for your company at this year's show?

A. We have developed a large number of new products and are continually developing new systems to address the specific security risks at high profile sporting events such as the Olympics.

Our key focus will be on these systems such as MultiFence, RDS and SecureGuard and on our range of PAS 68 blockers and bollards:

• MultiFence, 5km of which we deployed at the London 2012 Olympics to provide a mobile high-security hostile vehicle mitigation (HVM) fencing solution fencing for temporary venues including Horse Guards Parade, Wembley Stadium and Arena, Greenwich Park, the O2 Arena, the Royal Artillery Barracks, St James's Park Newcastle and Weymouth sailing village.

• Rapid Deployable System (RDS), now a part of the Home Office's National Barrier Asset (NBA) to which we added the Eyelynx Sharpview Video Content Analysis (VCA) system for trials at the Conservative Party autumn conference in Manchester last October.

• SecureGuard, which the Police Service of Northern Ireland used at the G8 Summit in Enniskillen in May last year at what is widely regarded the most secure G8 Summit ever.

Q. What product services are you going to be exhibiting at this year's show?

A. We are exhibiting our temporary high-security fencing solutions MultiFence, RDS and SecureGuard alongside our range of PAS 68 bollards and our permanent high security fencing systems portfolio. Together they constitute one of the broadest ranges of security fencing systems on the market.

All of our systems can incorporate pedestrian and vehicle gates, turnstiles and access portals, CCTV columns and PID systems.

Q. What trend have you seen emerge over the past 12 months in your area of specialism?

A. Globally, the biggest risk is the dynamic and continually evolving terrorist and security threat taking place, in the west at least, against a backdrop of strained public finances which are putting the squeeze on investment. For them, it really is a case of having to get more for less.

So for the Government, the security services, the police and commercial operators of Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) sites, they want increasingly sophisticated security solutions delivered in as cost-effective and efficient a manner.

We are helping them address these twin but conflicting pressures by creating new products that are more secure, flexible, reusable and efficient.

That's why we developed systems such as MultiFence PAS 68 and RDS PAS 68, to provide HVM in temporary, rapidly-deployed fencing systems with no below ground foundations, this is a real breakthrough as in the past there have been virtually no permanent crash rated fences, let alone temporary.

And police forces estimated the deployment of RDS would save them 90% of the cost of police time when securing major events compared with the traditional Heras temporary fencing solution.
