Smiths Detection products help to safeguard G7 Summit in Brussels

Security for world leaders who attended this month's G7 Summit in Brussels, Belgium, was enhanced by the use of Smiths Detection equipment.

Hand-held detectors to identify chemical agents, explosives and radiological threats were supplied to the EU Commission (DG HOME) working with the EU Council on the security arrangements. Conference rooms and general area were checked and cleared for any potential risks using handheld MMTD multi threat detectors, RadSeeker radiological detectors, and SABRE 5000 units which detect trace amounts of explosives.

Ian May, Vice President of Smiths Detection's EMEA region said: "Our range of detection technologies meant we were well placed to respond to this request for systems to detect a variety of potential threats. The products provided added confidence for the security forces charged with protecting national leaders at one of the most high profile events this year. This followed our effective support at the EU-Africa Summit in April, also in Brussels, highlighting the strong relationship we have developed with the European Commission as a partner in the activities covered by the recent EU Commission Communication on the detection of CBRNE threats."
