Excellims Awarded US Department of Homeland Security Contract to Develop New Explosives Trace Detection (ETD) System

Excellims Corporation announced a contract award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for development of a next-generation explosives trace detection (ETD) system. The funding is part of the DHS Science and Technology Directorate's Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) 13-03, seeking technologies to enhance the capabilities of existing ETD systems. Excellims expects to conduct the work over the next two years.

"We are very excited about the opportunity to work with DHS on a next-generation ETD system based on Excellims' advanced on-site chemical analysis technology. This high resolution multidimensional detection system will significantly reduce the false alarm rate and increase the confidence for security screening without compromise on throughput," explained Dr. Ching Wu, President and CEO of Excellims Corporation, in a statement.

The contract also has Leidos Inc. as a teaming partner to provide advanced engineering support for ETD development. Dr. Wu commented, "We are grateful to have Leidos as a collaborator as they bring years of chemical detection expertise and advanced engineering capability to the development team." "We are pleased to partner with Excellims on an innovative approach to enhancing ETD system performance," Jeff Murter, Leidos Vice President CBRNE & Emergency Management Division Leidos stated.
