BDL SYSTEMS LTD ANNOUNCE THE LATEST ADDITION TO THEIR RADIO FREQUENCY EXPLOSIVE ORDNANCE DISPOSAL INITIATORS

BDL Systems Ltd is pleased to announce the launch of their latest state of the art Radio Frequency (RF) Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Initiation System - SWORD.

SWORD has been developed in conjunction with an existing UK MOD EOD project, with the input from qualified EOD personnel. The system utilises a unique coding system that provides the highest levels of data security required in the dangerous field of EOD.

Each time the system is fired the code automatically changes. With such a large number of codes available the previous code will never be used again. This capability removes any possibility of potential ‘eavesdroppers' from reproducing the signal and enclosed data on subsequent firings. Additionally the system also automatically changes the channel setting, within its frequency allocation, each time the system code is up dated.

The system is small, lightweight and ideal for use within an Improvised Explosive Device Disposal (IEDD) Team. With the requirement for teams to be increasingly mobile and in some cases helicopter portable, the use of SWORD removes the requirement for several heavy firing cable drums to be carried within the EOD equipment scaling. The weight of one cable drum equating to several SWORD systems. SWORD also removes the requirement for the traditional firing cable from being dragged from the incident control point to the target area, thus reducing the physical degradation experienced by the EOD Operator on the long walk to the suspect device. The complex problem of multiple floors in buildings and the associated cable management hindrance is also no longer an issue with SWORD. The use of a RF Initiation System provides the EOD Team with the flexibility of being able to move the incident control point to a safer location or an improved firing point even once the equipment is deployed; a capability that is negligible with traditional hard wired systems. With the increasing threat levels being experienced around the globe never more so than in Iraq; the requirement to get off the ground quickly has never been more prevalent. SWORD enables the EOD team to clear its equipment in a fraction of the time taken to wind in hundreds of meters of firing cable. Less time on the ground means less opportunity for the team to become a target.
