SYTRAL deploys Sepura on the Lyon public transport system.

Sepura's TETRA radio terminals have been selected by SYTRAL, the second-largest public transport authority in France. SYTRAL's integrated public transport system in the Lyon metropolitan region currently serves around 2.1 million inhabitants. Currently SYTRAL operates the Lyon Metro system, 900 buses on 112 lines, and over 100 school buses, as well as 47 trams and 102 trolley buses.

In the first phase, 600 Sepura SRH3800 sGPSâ„¢ handsets and 80 Sepura SRM3500 vehicle-mounted units will be used on SYTRAL's new ROHDE&SCHWARZ ACCESSNET®-T TETRA communications network. It is expected that this fleet will eventually grow by an additional 2,000 terminals.

Sepura's hand-held and vehicle-mounted radios will be used to transmit GPS information from SYTRAL's vehicles to the authority's control centre. Sepura's radios will support all the radio communications services that SYTRAL needs in order to resolve its complex communication challenges, across its full range of operational requirements. Packet data, as well as voice, status and SDS data services will not only improve communications between drivers and central control teams, but also provide real-time vehicle location information to enhance scheduling management. And with SYTRAL looking to move to the latest version of Sepura Radio Manager to control its fleet of handsets, the authority will be able to extend its communications capabilities still further.

"Sepura has once again proved adept at helping a major public-transport organisation realise significant improvements in operational safety, efficiency and enhanced customer service, says Richard Redgrave, Regional Sales Director for Sepura. "We've proven our state-of-the-art communication solutions are ideal for the demanding needs of today's public-transport sector, with its increasing dependence on mission-critical communication systems. Our success in Lyon, France's second largest City, follows our earlier win with RATP in Paris, and significant wins with other French public transport organizations
