Sepura wins first police order in India

Sepura has won its first contract with an Indian police force, to supply TETRA digital radios at Gurgaon, a fast-growing city in the national capital region of Delhi.

The Police Department decided on installing a TETRA digital radio service and Police-oriented applications, for reliable, secure and instant communications to help combat the city's rising crime rate.

Sepura's SRH3800 GPS hand-held and SRM3500 GPS vehicle radios will work within the TETRA-based Dial 100 (911) and AVLS Supported Dispatch - alongside the existing analogue system, in a communications network that will be used by senior police officers, traffic management and VIP security.

Kevin Graham, Sepura's Regional Director in Asia, emphasised the importance of this sales win, saying: "It's a significant breakthrough for Sepura in a country where Sepura and TETRA are poised to expand considerably."
The contract was secured by Thunderbird Industries, Sepura's distributor in India, operating from Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and Mumbai. The radios will work on ACCESSNETâ„¢ infrastructure produced by Rohde & Schwarz.

Sid Bagchi, of Thunderbird Industries, says: "Success stories from other public safety users of Sepura's GPS radios, where they have been used in similar operating environments, convinced them to choose TETRA."

"We have established a modern police control room that transmits and tracks police foot patrols and vehicle-based police officers, via their GPS-enabled radios on a near, real time basis. Through this mechanism, assistance can be more rapidly directed to the scene of a crime, or in response to public alerts made through the local emergency call system."

"The preference for Sepura TETRA radios is attributed, in part, to independent studies that have demonstrated the superior speed and accuracy of Sepura's GPS technology over rival GPS services. Furthermore, the radios' design, ease of use and the common user interface across hand-held and mobile radios facilitates fast acceptance by users."
