New MD appointed for QinetiQ's growing Security business

QinetiQ has appointed Simon Stringer as the new managing director for its rapidly expanding security business with effect from 10th January 2005. He joins QinetiQ from a role as director of Homeland Security for BAE Systems. Stringer is a respected figure in the world of international security, counter terrorism and trans-national threats having consulted on security issues at an international level, advising on the development of capability and the use of technology and systems.

"QinetiQ has established itself as a key player in the development of security technologies and this appointment reflects the emphasis and importance we place on the commercialisation of our technologies in this area," explained Hal Kruth, head of QinetiQ's Security and Dual Use business group. "We recognise the need for strong management and commercial understanding and with appointments like this we can draw on a wealth of international experience and apply it to our business."

Stringer Joined British Aerospace as an engineering trainee, studied Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering at Kingston College (University) and upon completion, commenced his professional career as a test engineer in the Flight and Ground Test Department in 1984.

Other roles have included that of project director for the BAE Systems Ventures organisation; leading the team charged with the rationalisation of engineering facilities During the British Aerospace / Marconi Systems merger in 2000; assistant chief engineer for the Harrier Programme and operations director for Tornado & Harrier; and site & operations director of Dunsfold Aerodrome, responsible for all of the Development and Production activities at the site.
