Perfection in airframe performance can give the pilot battle-winning edge, providing that airframe is part of the Eurofighter Typhoon Weapon System. Please click on one of the five tabs below to find out more.
The Eurofighter Typhoon autopilot is designed for both long range cruising and to assist the pilot in tactical situations. The autopilot provides basic track, heading, altitude and airspeed modes, and allows the pilot to fly optimum attack profiles automatically. Advanced modes such as auto-climb, auto-attack, and auto-approach
are available. The FCS is a full-authority, quadruplex digital Fly-By-Wire system providing: • Excellent control characteristics throughout the flight envelope
Pitch control is achieved by the all-moving foreplanes and flaperons, with roll control via the flaperon and rudder; the foreplanes also act as trimming devices to ensure minimum drag. The slats and flaperons automatically optimise the wing camber at all Angles Of Attack (AOA). The spine mounted airbrake, intake cowls and nosewheel steering comprise the secondary control system, and the entire FCS is integrated with all Eurofighter Typhoon’s other systems via avionics and Utilities Control System (UCS) 3910 databuses.
Eurofighter Typhoon has a foreplane/delta configuration, which is aerodynamically unstable. This gives the aircraft advantages in:
